Originally settled as a post for native fur traders, the name Moose Jaw originated from the Cree word Moosegaw, meaning “warm breezes”. The city offers a variety of interesting activities and sites for visitors to explore. The Tunnels of Moose Jaw is an interpretive centre that uses actors to guide guests through the network of tunnels running under the city which were used by bootleggers during Prohibition. More local history and contemporary culture are on display at the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Yvette Moore Fine Art Gallery. Visit the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village Museum, which is home to over 200 antique tractors, cars and trucks as well as the boyhood home of Canada’s 13th Prime Minister, John G. Diefenbaker, and then take in a Moose Jaw Warriors WHL game at the Civic Centre Arena. History, culture, action, excitement and more are all on offer in Moose Jaw.
